How To Earn Money Playing Your Favorite Video Games

Many kids and current adults have heard their parents, usually Moms’ telling them playing video games is a waste of time. That’s like saying playing sports is a waste of time. We know that’s not true and neither is it when it comes to gaming.

This past weekend I spent time in New York City covering the biggest video game tournament I’ve been involved with. To give you a little background, I’ve written national print Madden and NCAA strategy guides for Prima magazine from 2003 thru 2011 and covered the Madden Challenge since inception back in 2002. The Virgin Gaming EA Sports Challenge Series was the best event to date.

Virgin Gaming and not because the co-founders, Billy Levy and Zachary Zeldin are virgins, which they say they aren’t. The name is because of a partnership with Sir Richard Branson and the Virgin brand. The Virgin Gaming EA Sports Challenge series gave away one million dollars in prize money to competitors in EA Sports Madden 12, FIFA 12 and NHL 12.

While interviewing Billy and Zach it was easy to see that their youth, both look to be in their mid twenties, is what helps them connect with gamers as well as drive their passion for the success of the competitive gaming industry. That means they want everyone to have a chance at competing and winning. Gamers qualified for the event by playing ranked matches on their Sony PS3 consoles via the online EA Sports Arena lobby in Madden 12, FIFA 12, or NHL 12. Winning one game at the live event guaranteed participants a nice chunk of change ($800 allegedly)
