J. Cole remerges with “Cole Summer,” a soulful sample-driven track, which tells his story up to this point in his career. He gets help on the beat from Lauryn Hill’s duet with D’Angelo, “Nothing Even Matters”. I love the way he asks Lauryn Hill to forgive him for using the sample (assuming with no permission) and says he really aint got the dough lol.
From chronicling his mixtape highlights to learning from Jay-Z, the song’s lyrical content has a lot to digest. But this may be my favorite J Cole song yet!
His sophomore effort, Born Sinner, is out on June 25.
