After Tracy Morgan released his statement “I am saddened that these untrue stories about me have people questioning my commitment to my family. For reasons that are between us, I have not seen my mother in 11 years, and outside of a random call here and there have had little to no contact with my sister. We all have personal family issues that we have to deal with in life, but I choose to deal with mine in private and not through the media.”

His mother is stating that Tracy made the family business public when he released his book ”I Am The New Black” Read more here

Anthony Mackie on Black Cinema: “Our Hustle Is Way Behind”

Anthony Mackie unintentionally created a lingering story when he shared his thoughts about the state of Black cinema. Mackie said that Blacks have not done enough to get their stories told. Speaking with NPR, the New Orleans-bred actor said his statement was “blown completely out of proportion,” but did acknowledge that it “was a bad choice of words by me.” He did, however, echo a similar sentiment, citing the late Don Cornelius, Bill Cosby, and Robert Townsend on using their own money to put their products out there.

He said: ”If you look at all of these people from the analogs of African-American history in entertainment, they gave us a blueprint on how to make money, and how to make it work. And I feel like, you know, you get out in the L.A. life. You’re laying in the sun. You’re being invited to parties. You’re having a good time. You have girlfriends, boyfriends. You have expensive cars. You forget the idea of hustle. And I think right now, our hustle game is way behind.”

“I was in recording school and I wanted to be an engineer,” she says with a smile. “I was learning the inner workings of audio. ‘Oscillation’ is just another word for wave. There’s different kinds of waves; sine waves, triangle waves, sawtooth waves…I am a nerd to the core. I didn’t want to be a singer, I was just recording myself to learn the Pro Tools program, but the songs got really good.”

The D.C. native went on to record with The Foreign Exchange (“Daykeeper,” “House of Cards”) and Common (“Changes”), and has recently released a new double EP, the more modestly titled Gone.

In this exclusive to TheUrbandaily she talks about the “urban/suburban” mix of her music and what it was like opening for Jennifer Hudson in Aruba last summer.
